Course Description:

Concussion awareness has increased significantly with the media and changes in legislation and regulations. Despite the high level of awareness, research is just starting to address the physiology and determination of best assessments and treatments after concussion.  

Currently it is unknown if post-concussion balance deficits are due to peripheral vestibular, vision or proprioceptive pathology or from deficits in central sensorimotor integration. We will provide an overview of concussion pathology including typical signs and symptoms of both acute and chronic concussion. We will review both standard and novel assessments for concussion as well as describe a tailored treatment approach based on stage and symptom burden.

Program Objectives:

•  Be able to state objective tests for acute concussion assessment

•  Demonstrate knowledge on return to play considerations

•  Prioritize rehabilitation treatment approach based on assessment
