"The Student Leadership Committee (SLC) develops ways to meaningfully engage students in the chapter and in APTA. The SLC is instrumental supporting a shared OPTA and APTA goal to develop the next generation of leaders in the physical therapy profession. OPTA provides resources through its: a) Membership Committee committee and budget, and b) Board of Directors, to advance SLC initiatives devoted to student membership and leadership development.

Examples of prior SLC activities to build leadership and a value for OPTA/APTA include:

  • planning and implementing student-focused conferences,
  • promoting student advocacy for the profession (e.g., flash action and National Advocacy Dinner),
  • developing opportunities to integrate students into OPTA committees and workgroups,
  • communicating opportunities for association and community engagement to students
  • regular communication and coordination with the OPTA Board liaison and relevant chapter committees for collaboration, budget development and management, mentorship, and leadership development

The SLC Chief Liaison shall

·         Regularly communicate SLC meeting dates and agendas with the OPTA Board Liaison
·         Appoint an SLC member to serve as a liaison to, or member of, the chapter Membership Committee"

The mission statement of the Student Leadership Committee (SLC) of the Oregon Physical Therapy Association is to grow a thriving community of recent graduates (<5 years) and current PT and PTA students. We aim to promote student involvement and provide a unified voice in APTA and OPTA in order to express views and concerns of students and recent graduates. We strive to foster a collaborative relationship between students and licensed clinicians to promote professional excellence both pre- and post-graduation.
